No surprise that there'd be a THG topic.
Well I've been reading the first book and I don't see why everyone is saying THG is a rip-off of BR. Yeah, sure they have the same premise of Teenagers killing other Teenagers because of a dictatorial Government, but that's where the similarities end. Well, actually, so far Peeta kinda reminds me of Hiroki and the antagonists names sound similar (Cato, Kazuo), but that's it!

But yes, so far it's quite good, very choppy here and there and Rue and Katniss practically because BFFs instantly which kinda bugged me. but other than that, I'd recommend it to a friend.

No where near as good as Battle Royale though.

What do you guys think?

I haven't read it yet, though I mean to. I know it's not a total rip off, but all the hype about it and the new movie still irks me just because the kind of people who like it are just as capable of liking Battle Royale and don't know what they're missing. >_>

But hopefully through Hunger Games, they come to know Battle Royale and BR can have a fresh legion of fans~

You really should read it, but you're probably sick of people telling you to. Errr
I know, it really bugs me how they call us Hipsters because we like BR. At least some of us have taken the time to read their book(s.)

The only problem with that is that they might bring in some rapid Twilight fans, the ones who do Teams and overly fangirl over the boys. It's bad enough a couple have already came in and 'Teamed' some of the Battle Royale characters. There are even 'Team Kawada' and 'Team Kiriyama' T-Shirts!

o lawd.

Yeah, I don't have much of the hipster mindset like, "get out of my fandom n00b". xD I'll just be happy to have more BR fans around. @_@

Though I certainly wouldn't get along with anyone as well if they liked Twilight. ~_~
And Teams would irk me for sure. x_o Obviously I'm fond of Kazuo, but I like Shogo too, and I'll easily admit both of them are formidable players Program-wise. I wouldn't want to so vehemently take sides. xP

I'm sorry, I know most BR fans aren't hipsters and are offended when people call us that, but funny enough, BR turned me into a hipster. xD

I'd love for more BR fans, which is why I've been the most active fan on Tumblr recently.

Even though I hate those T-Shirts, I can help but really want to buy one anyway.

So far, Katniss seems to be the female Shogo of THG. She's really bad-ass, but borderline perfect in a way.

Theoretically book/manga!Kazuo is a bit of a Gary-Stu. By all means perfect in every aspect and at everything he does.
YET NONE OF THE OTHER STUDENTS ACKNOWLEDGE HIS BEAUTY
Y IS THIS
maybe because he took out a gym teacher's eyeball. . .
and cute lil' Shuya, meanwhile, doesn't go around taking out gym teachers' eyeballs.

sigh.

Agreed, but I do believe we are getting off topic, how about we move this to the Kazuo FC. Troll

I, honestly LOVE both THG and BR.
I'm pretty tired of seeing posts saying that THG is a rip-off of THG in the #Battleroyale
They're so different.
I've read all three THG books and they're amazing, I don't get why lots of Battle Royale fans wont even try and read The hunger games.
If you like Battle royale, you should be able to like something similar to it.

Went and saw The Hunger Games~

Not a bad film, though a lot of the killing and action scenes were super blurred, and literally half the movie was about preparing for the game. >_<
But there were some really intense scenes, and really funny ones too, lol.

And whenever they pulled that "May the odds be ever in your favor" line - which was a lot - this is what popped into my head every. Time:

I went to see the movie with one of my friends. He uttered the one thing I never wanted to hear, 'THG is the best film ever, I'll never watch BR.' No seriously.
I was disappointed since it takes away a lot of the good shit from the book (Like Rue's usefulness, Cato's villainy, Fox Face's cunning etc.)

Agree with the Kazuo caption. Chance!

If any of my friends ever uttered such words, ... there would be consequences of enormous magnitude in our "friendship". ~_~

Yeahh, as to be expected of any book-turned-movie. But I felt like they left a lot to be desired in the way of explanations/backstory, too, though. Like, if I hadn't Wiki'd some of the stuff about The Hunger Games, I feel like there were parts of the film I would've been really lost at.

I thought so too, I even gave him the opportunity to watch AND read it. But I can kind of forgive him since he said he purely likes it because of the visuals and won't be able to take BR seriously as it's such an old film (He can't watch/listen to anything that's not of the highest quality.)

Yeah, they took away a lot of important things (but they created the 'Curly haired constipated fuck.')

I'll be seeing THG in theaters on Tuesday.
But oh my god you should kill your friend for saying he/she will never watch BR again.
Srsly bro.

Don't get your hopes up, they leave a lot of the story out of the film.

I wanted to, but then I remembered that he's hilarious and he reminds me of a combination of Gin from Bleach and Masanobu Ando.

Agreed! I was upset about how much violence they blurred, just to give it a lwer rating. It was pretty good though. Also I was REALLY upset that they didn't do anything for Clato. THEY ARE MY OTP, Cato was supposed to beg for Clove to stay alive when she was dying ;A;
