Gunpoint Kiss- The Roleplay Before the Writing - Page 9 Kazuoiconrly

At just the beginnings of his first name, his dark eyes flickered to his companion warily. And at the honorific, his eyes narrowed, and a nearly visible layer of ice frosted over his form; though the bristling through his frame was subtle, the raw aura alone of his contempt could be felt in the air.

But at her question, his sudden venom seemed to drain away. His gaze drifted off again. The remains of his bread sat in his hand, and though it didn't look like he was going to eat any more of it for now, he wasn't putting it away yet, either.

Despite his appearing to think over Setsuko's question, however, Kazuo only shrugged again. If he had a reason, he didn't look keen on explaining.

Setsuko swallowed through her tightened throat; she was frightened by his darkness, even though it had boiled away with her inquiry.

It was not relief that came to replace her fear, but something just as primeval: anger. It burned inside of her like a dry fire, but her face remained as cold and expressionless as stone. As her anger continued to simmer, he shrugged; pain broke through her blank shell and Setsuko sighed.

She knew well that her companion had no intention to speak, she also knew that something more important was at hand, and that her part of their deal was far from over.

But something still hurt her heart.

Slowly, she stepped away from her place. Her footsteps were quiet as she approached him from behind and rested her forehead on Kazuo’s back.

He did not look at Setsuko as she moved off, but exhaled almost sharply enough to make a sound when the contact came at his back, as if she had startled him. His gaze dropped down to the bread in his hand and studied it intently for the sake of something to look at - something to concentrate on while his breathing, though easy-paced, grew heavier, like he might've been refraining from lashing out... but his face was blank.

A slight furrow in his brows, and Kazuo put the remainder of the bread back into his bag. He turned and stepped away from Setsuko to pause and face the living room, eyes glazing momentarily as his thoughts wandered to pondering if the cat had gone far or if it would come back. His gaze followed the path the feline had taken to the door. But he had no plans of going to look for it. If he really wanted to kill something he could go out for another goat.

Or better yet, hunt down some other participants. His hand lifted to knead over his face as he thought on just how long it had been since he had killed the boy at the clinic. Too long.

With the support of the warm body gone, Setsuko’s head dipped forward. A sigh as sharp as steam left her lips; it sounded as if she was surprised and pleasured, like Kazuo suddenly touched a breast or betwixt her legs. Her assailed neck craned and her head tilted up, making the sound once more.

Rather than following his gaze, she looked out the window, which held the barn in a crackling, wooden frame. Her eyes narrowed, she felt like she forgot something. She made it a point to block out what had happened to the cow as she sifted through her thoughts.

Wait.

There was something missing.

A pale hand went over the silken ribbon, flinching when she realized that two things were missing. The shears were on the countertop, but the wakizashi...the blade.

It was still there.

Maybe she wouldn’t need it. The boy had a submachine gun. But what if they got separated? Shears would be useless. She felt sick at the thought of going back to the barn, but she had to.

“I’ll be back.” Setsuko’s voice was cold, and she started to feel nauseous.

-

She made her way towards the doorway, not really feeling her legs as they walked. The night air embraced her face when it poked out the doorway, and it welcomed the rest of her body as she stepped out. Invisible hands turned her head towards the dark barn, which loomed against the trees.

Its darkness came alive and started to pull her inside.

She started to walk towards the construct, starting at a slow pace and then ran. With a harsh grip, she grabbed onto the door like it was a brake. Setsuko did not waste any time; as soon as she found the blade, it was retrieved. Its heaviness was familiar, and having some protection was comforting. The wakizashi was sheathed and fixed onto the ribbon.

Before she could even turn to leave, a squeal startled her. The pigs that were awake in their enclosure were now alert. Her eyes widened and drifted towards the rabbit cages which were now devoid of life. The small creatures which were scurrying about a few hours ago were now bloodied. Then, the cow’s pen came into sight. The girl could not look away from the spot.

Something else caught her attention in the dark corner; the cat was sitting on the shelving inside the pen, its eyes reflecting light. She pursed her lips and bristled. The yellow orbs were inviting her to come. To come and see the carcass that she made with steel.
Guilt was short-lived and Setsuko began to reassure herself that the cow was sick. But doubt slowly destroyed her confidence.

There was something wrong.

She wanted to run away to the house to be near Kazuo again, but the desire to look again intensified. Her legs were like jelly, but she was able to reach the pen and look down. A look of utter terror creased her face.
The cow had not been sick at all, it was in labor. What remained of the calf had been pushed out and was lying dead with its mother on the floor.

A cry erupted from her throat and she ran out of the barn and into the house. She fell on her behind on the floor in the living room near the couch, brought her knees to her chin and buried her face away.

Kazuo's head lifted to look at his companion when she spoke again. A slight pout overcame in his face in confusion, but when his gaze shifted away as Setsuko headed for the door, his brows knit into a more troubled expression. He felt a faint burn of anxiety build his chest, but he didn't understand why.

Kazuo did not know what it was to worry about someone.

He tried to soothe the feeling with a drink of water, and then occupied himself pacing - not without a few glances out the window for signs of his companion - until Setsuko returned. Only then did the anxious pressure in his chest wane away... but he put no thought to the timing.

The girl rushed past him back to the couch, but sat suddenly on the floor instead and curled up there, hiding her face in her knees. Her running had made him grip the Uzi, and he peered toward the door she had come from, but didn't see any apparent cause for urgency. He even strode briskly for the door to glance around outside, submachine gun in hand, but still found nothing for Setsuko to panic over. Confusion continued to permeate his features as Kazuo turned to walk back to his companion by the couch, and he gave her a careful kick in the side - little more than a prod of his foot - to get her attention and cast a questioning look down at her.

Small sounds escaped her open maw as her mind absorbed the horrible truth like a sponge. She jumped at the touch at her side. It was strong enough to get her attention but gentle to not stimulate bruising. Her head snapped up and fearful eyes met his.

Setsuko leaned backwards and crab-walked away from him, stopping in her tracks seconds later when she recognized who had prodded her. Seeing Kazuo made her calm down somewhat; the girl’s breathing normalized and her muscles relaxed. His gaze was questioning, and rightly so. Her running in was abrupt. She did not want to speak, yet her voice still erupted from her mouth.

“I was wrong. So wrong.” She looked away and then back up at him, her voice was breaking and her vision was getting blurry from tears that she did not want. “The cow that I killed wasn’t sick.” A sound akin to choking escaped her throat. “It was in labor.” Her voice lowered as if she was talking to herself. “How could I be so stupid?”

She wrapped her arms across her chest and held it tight to keep herself from falling apart with guilt.

He jumped somewhat when his companion scurried away at his nudging. The look in her eyes irked him somehow - he felt his stomach clench and anxiety churn through his chest again. The feeling made his brows knit; it was not what he expected to feel at sighting fear in the girl's eyes. Kazuo liked being feared... He had made that all too obvious through the course of the Program so far. But somehow he didn't seem to like how Setsuko was looking at him now, though he didn't understand why not.

But after a moment, she appeared to relax a little. When she spoke up, her voice was choked. His head gave a slight tilt until she went on to explain.... At which point the troubled expression clouding his features cleared gradually into amusement.

A grin crawled across the boy's lips, silent laughter shining in his dark eyes. The breathy sound that seemed to be his equivalent of laughter began to slip out of him in inconsistent spurts, and he even turned to lean against the table for support. While Setsuko's macabre mistake was sending her into a fit of guilt, it only appeared to send her wild-haired companion into a fit of laughter.

It was hard to hold the tears back. She was struggling with the truth, like it was a monster that wanted to tear her apart. Her grip around her chest got tighter with her arms digging into her bosom, only to stop when she saw the glint of amusement in her companion’s eyes. Setsuko was confused at first, her eyes widening when his quiet, breathy laughter started.

She shuddered, and then a terrible rage took its place on her brow. The girl rose and stepped towards him, hitting one of the walls with her palm along the way. Her eyes challenged Kazuo's and her cheeks became pink when it was apparent at how close she was. Despite this, she did not back off or turn away.

“Stop.” Her voice was low and it flowed as if she wanted to say something more, but could not think of anything.

His lifted his gaze to the girl when she approached. His lanky frame turned to stand straight and face Setsuko by the time she reached him - a completely relaxed, albeit confident and subtly menacing gesture. He was still smiling, still 'laughing', and his eyes still gleamed with the amusement of a demon overseeing the damned. No matter his companion's seriousness or sudden anger, Kazuo did not look in the least threatened, emphasized all the more by the presence of the submachine gun at his side that presently went untouched. If anything, it seemed he only found her sour turn of mood just as funny.

Her hand swept up like it was stimulated by an electric current, but she was still able to catch herself and stop right before it made contact with his cheek. Setsuko was not as angry as she was hours ago and was able to think rationally. She backed away from him as her hand became limp and fell.

They had lain and slept with each other, yes. In fact, her hitting him seemed to initiate their affair; but she had the feeling that she would not be as fortunate if she did that again.
As she turned away, the girl collected her thoughts to tell herself that it was merely a grave mistake, but she could not stop panicking; it was hard to ignore the guilt that lashed against her psyche.

Minutes passed and her breathing started to pick up again. Her own rage was terrifying and she felt alone. Setsuko turned to face him again and rushed over to embrace him despite her fury; her only sound was a distressed cry before she buried her face into his chest.

In reflex, his hand moved to his gun, but he had not even grazed the trigger before stopping as Setsuko's hand froze and slowly withdrew. Amusement still lingered in his features, but his eyes had taken on a somewhat darker, challenging look, with the spark of conflict he seemed to so revel in. A smile persisted to hover about his lips. He studied his companion carefully, watching her for further signs of anger or violence, as if daring her to strike again.

But when she turned for him once more, this time she did not raise a hand and instead held him suddenly, tightly. Kazuo's frame tensed and his breath escalated into a brief bout of hyperventilating, enough that he momentarily felt claustrophobic and suffocated, and he squirmed in Setsuko's hold with a small sound of protest. Only a few seconds later, though, and his breathing calmed, and he stopped struggling. The beginnings of panic continued to simmer in his chest, but he did not feel as uncomfortable as he had initially, and no longer felt the immediate need to push the girl away.

Still, it was obvious Kazuo was far from comfortable. He was still tense; the amusement had dropped from his face to leave a more than discontent expression, and he averted his gaze from his companion as she held him.

The embrace did not provide the comfort that she needed; the boy’s agitated breathing and wriggling shattered any succor that it could have held. Her lungs denied the release of air from its prison, yet her heart raced and fright chilled warm blood. She shut her eyes and her clutch tightened in panic. Just as Setsuko readied to release her hold, everything became still. No more writhing. Nothing.

She rested the side of her head against his bloodstained shirt. The tension in her muscles disappeared, like their warmth brushed it away. A strange, almost eerie placidity soothed her rage; this calm was too sudden. Setsuko pushed the thought away and raised herself on tiptoe to brush her lips against his neck.

The girl wanted to savor their closeness while it lasted, but she would not be able to hold onto him forever.

Gunpoint Kiss- The Roleplay Before the Writing - Page 9 Kazuoiconrly

He had just been about to glance at the girl clutching him when she grazed a kiss across his throat, making him jump - especially at the slight shift of his metal collar. Dark eyes moved out the window, then. The collar was a constant reminder of the game he was playing... and how the game had a time limit.

The future did not concern him. Kazuo had never been one to put much mind to the future, and even now was no different. His priority - outside surviving, of course - was killing, and he remained keenly aware every moment spent not killing, or not hunting someone to kill, was a moment wasted of the three-day game he had volunteered for.

His hands flexed at his sides, feeling bare again without a warm coat of red. His gaze moved fleetingly over Setsuko's wounded throat, and for a moment he was struck with the impulse to strangle her, but he refrained, attention drifting lazily off elsewhere.

She gently inhaled his scent once more before she released him from her hold, albeit hesitantly. Her eyes swept over his torso and neck and her gaze lingered on the collar.

It certainly was not wise to stay here for too long. Before stepping away, Setsuko looked up at him. Her eyes were questioning, but not completely; they were also muddled with gentleness, and to a lesser degree, affection. Mere seconds passed before she moved towards the front door and knelt on the cold hardwood. She retrieved her shoes and slipped them on, being careful of the bandage wrapped tightly around her ankle and foot.

As she buckled the two straps on each shoe, a blank expression spread over her features when her mind wandered. It wandered into the warmth of pure carnality and desire, not fully immersed. Her first taste left her craving more.
But it was not the time. Yet, finding solace in his touch comforted her and let her forget. Another doubt pulled her away from lust; Setsuko wondered if her companion even wanted to lay with her again.
She became cold and stood up to wordlessly wander towards the white boxes that she was able to salvage from the seaside shack, only giving him a passing glance.

“Shall we go?”

Gunpoint Kiss- The Roleplay Before the Writing - Page 9 Kazuoiconrly

Tension swept off his form once he was free of the embrace, and he gave a long sigh as if his breath had been constricted all that while. His brows knit at the look his companion cast him, as if to retort with What are you looking at? But when she turned for the door and her shoes, his gaze drifted off again, and his face fell blank.

The boy appeared to space out entirely - not moving in the least and gaze concentrated on some spot in the distance - until Setsuko called at him. He turned to look at her... and for the first second he did, Kazuo's face appeared strangely normal. His dark eyes were bright and alert but not alarmed; his expression was blank but for its typical subtle pout. His features did not carry any usual sign of spite or challenge, nor were they weighed down with the glassy boredom that frequently seemed to plague them. Despite the Uzi at his side, the blood spattered across his white shirt, and his wild tangle of hair, for a brief moment Kazuo looked nothing like the bloodthirsty killer he had proven to be; just an average 15-year-old boy turning to the sound of a familiar voice.

Then the detached boredom set in again, glazing over his black-brown eyes and bringing a sour undertone into his face. He gave a short nod, glancing around once to make sure he had everything before pulling his bag off of the table and striding for the door after Setsuko.

He reached into his bag on the way out to check his map, quickly deciding to visit the clinic again in case anyone else had shown up there since last he had inspected it. If the clinic came up empty again, he contemplated sweeping through the middle of the island and then the western portion he hadn't seen yet.

She bent down to pick up the plastic kits, balancing them carefully on top of her lower arm as her chest kept them from falling. They were annoying to hold, but necessary. Hopefully she would be able to sneak the contents into the bag later.

The chill of the dark morning tore into her when she stepped out of the door, leaving patches of goosebumps across her exposed flesh. She shivered and almost dropped her bearings but caught them in time. The cold would have to be ignored, for now. It would get warmer once the sun rose, anyway.
Setsuko looked over at her companion, her gaze lingering on his arm. The wound did not need as much attention as it did before, but perhaps she could get away with a few extra wrappings just to be close.

She also enjoyed feeling useful and putting her skills to use, as amateur as they might have been. The more use Kazuo got out of her, the higher her chances of survival...and perhaps another chance for affection.

“Where are we headed?” She whispered.

Kazuo did not answer initially, gaze sweeping ahead as he continued a few more steps before finally pausing. He took a careful look around as he retrieved his map from his bag again to be sure they had the time and privacy to pause. When he seemed assured they were alone, he gestured Setsuko to come closer, map in hand.

His eyes drifted over the girl's wounded throat again. He could barely even see the bruises or blood in the darkness here, but his gaze still felt drawn to them. Heat began to simmer in the pit of his stomach, and the feeling disconcerted him, so he quickly dismissed the view, dragging his eyes back down to the map, which he showed to Setsuko - scribbly handwriting and all - and tapped with his finger on the small icon that was the clinic. Next, he gestured vaguely throughout the middle of the island, and then made a swift motion toward the west side of the map. A crude explanation of his planned route, but it seemed that was all he was going to offer, as he did not give his companion much time to even study the map further before tucking it away again and striding on.

To his disappointment, the clinic remained empty. The smell of smoke from his grenades lingered, and flies could occasionally be heard presumably at the body of his victim - but he wasn't going to go look. If flies had found it, the corpse had probably gained an odor by now, which, thankfully, was not too widespread yet.

Inside the building, he set one hand on his hip and kneaded his forehead with the other hand, kicking at some debris half-heartedly. Kazuo gnawed at his lip somewhat. He felt restless. His mind sifted over the kills he had made so far, and the remaining students alive, and the remaining space open on the island. He looked forward to the game advancing and more danger zones popping up... If his theories about them were right, they would start closing in on the island so the participants would be gathered in a tighter area. Everyone would be easier to find then. No more wandering around for hours on end without finding anyone...

She stepped towards him at his gesture, looking down at the map when she was close. Her eyes followed his hands; first, they would head back to the clinic, scout the central stretch and then push west. Setsuko did not even have time to nod before he pulled the map from her sight; like she needed it, anyway. When he started to walk towards the foliage, she was close behind.

The journey back to the clinic was uneventful, and the place itself was empty. Her nose crinkled when she smelled the bitter smoke and sighed, jumping when Kazuo kicked at some refuse on the floor. Setsuko threw the first-aid kits onto a standing chair and leaned against the wall, her brows creased in thought.

They were going to be moving into territories with more hiding spots, more possible places where the participants made sanctuary. Running into conflict would be more likely. She would have to fight –kill- if necessary. Could she do it?

Maybe.

The girl froze at her own thoughts, eyes widening when she realized that her hand had wandered to the handle of the wakizashi. A frightened yelp escaped her lips and her hands reflexively jumped to bury themselves into her hair. She was almost too quick to accept the possibility of killing, too. She shut her eyes and started to shake, slowly becoming peaceful when she thought about the situation at hand, and how unlikely it was that she would embrace it fully. Besides, her companion would probably want all the kills for himself.

She looked over at Kazuo and approached him, placing a reluctant hand on his shoulder when she was near. It felt strange, especially since how different things were since their last stop at the clinic. She remained there, only moving once to step closer. The worries of the game at hand seemed to be pushed back and the confusion caused by his ever-changing behavior since they were intimate. She needed to know where they stood.

“Kazuo, why...” She paused. “Why did you kiss me?”

Too absorbed in his thoughts to notice his companion's footsteps, Kazuo jumped when he felt a hand on his shoulder. His hand tensed for his gun, but he relaxed before even quite grasping it. He continued to calm... up until Setsuko's question.

His head snapped to look at her, a distinctly sour expression billowing into his features - but whether it was due to the question itself, the use of his first name, or both, remained to be seen. His brow furrowed, though his eyes took on a more troubled than angry look. Anxiety even flickered through his face. The boy looked away as suddenly as he had turned to Setsuko, and his gaze dropped to the floor. His dark expression did not waver so he was glowering at the floor, but he offered no answer.

Gunpoint Kiss- The Roleplay Before the Writing - Page 9 Empty

She tore her comforting hand away when he looked over, arm falling limp at her side as if it became numb. But soon she was staring at the back of his head again and her question went unanswered. Her eyes widened and her brows furrowed in confusion, and to a lesser extent, pain. The emotions that were simmering in her were now boiling.

“If you’re making that face because I’m using your first name, get used to it. I’ve seen so much of you that formalities run cold.” Setsuko walked around him, quickly but cautiously in an almost perfect half-circle so that they faced each other.
She looked up at him slowly.

“You can’t just go from trying to kill me to-” She blushed and paused. “-This. Without any reasons.” Her hands and fingers indicated the assailed and bruised neck and her bloodied lips; the wounds born from passion.

When she spoke again, her voice was as soft as porcelain.

“When we were together, everything felt so right.” Her cheeks became even redder at the thought. “There’s something here. Between us. Whether you want to admit it or not.”

Gunpoint Kiss- The Roleplay Before the Writing - Page 9 Kazuoiconrly

A fresh scowl coated his face - but it was still not without hints of anxiety, too. He averted his gaze when she stepped in front of him to try to meet it. He did not look at her or her gesturing as she went on. It was obvious Kazuo was not keen to continue or even acknowledge the conversation... though he did not yet move away.

His eyes went dark when Setsuko's tone softened; they turned hollow and menacing, a look between angry and the expression he adopted when killing. His glare bore into the debris-covered floorboards, and his head began to shake back and forth, slowly at first until growing brisk and dismissive as he turned to start for the back door.

It didn't look like boy number six was going to admit anything.

Ice trapped her insides within the hollow crypt of her skin as she watched him turn away. She seemed to bristle as the unforgiving cold continued to trickle as if it were poison coursing her blood. Setsuko’s mouth parted slightly, only allowing a strangled whisper of distress to escape.

Every thought that mingled in her brain dropped and shattered. A sudden impulse caused her to move with an unfamiliar grace. The girl slowly grasped his sleeved arms and with one movement, turned the boy around. The next sensation she knew were his lips.

He tensed at the grip that suddenly hauled him back around, prepared to pull away - but froze, tension continuing to simmer through his frame.

Her lips were warm.

He was braced to jerk away from her, but he didn't.

Soft.

His hands rose to grip Setsuko at the shoulders to push her off of him... but they didn't.

Comfortable. Her kiss felt comfortable and inviting, not like plain flesh against flesh which generally so irked him. He felt heat pour into his abdomen, and his breath deepened suddenly at the sensation. Kazuo used his hold on his companion only to pull her closer, leaning into the kiss hard as his lips enveloped hers. What had been such a cold demeanor just seconds before had suddenly turned much, much warmer.

Setsuko shuddered as warmth pooled within her; it threatened to melt the frigid despair that encapsulated her being. His lips were sweet and tempted her to delve into the taste, even though she was no stranger to its familiarity. She inhaled sharply when his hands clutched her shoulders, and found comfort in Kazuo’s scent.

With hesitation, she slowly pulled away from the kiss and looked into his eyes. Her eyes shined with a radiant warmth. With a content sigh, she pressed her lips to his cheek.

“Don’t be afraid.” Her voice was low and her words were slurred, all spoken in one breath.

She ran the tip of her tongue over his lower lip before returning to the kiss eagerly.

Gunpoint Kiss- The Roleplay Before the Writing - Page 9 Kazuoiconrly

He did not meet Setsuko's gaze when she paused, his dark eyes glassy like he was in a trance; clarity returned to them, however, at the girl's murmur against his cheek. His brows knit. His lids drifted shut at the warm swipe of a tongue across his lip, and he breathed headily once the kiss resumed -- but his troubled expression lingered, before he pulled out of the kiss moments later. Kazuo simultaneously pulled away and gave his companion a half-hearted shove in the opposite direction, turning to step away from her and shaking his head as if trying to clear his senses. His breath was still heavy; a tingling heat still permeated his frame, and he wasn't sure he liked it.
